READY TO MOVE ___________________________________
... a Dance of Awareness weekend workshop with Tim Brown Brighton, Saturday & Sunday 20/21 September __________________________________ Ready to move?
Our bodies hold more than we realise. Memories, patterns, emotions, all held in our flesh and bones.
In our mind-centred world we overlook the body as a storehouse of untapped potentials. Waiting to be energised, to move, to be released. What is ready to move in you?
The energy and shapes held in your body influence your life experience. Your feelings and thoughts about your life are mirrored in your body. By paying attention to these patterns and allowing them to move, you can give them life, allow them to express themselves and set them free. That’s the aim of this weekend workshop.
>>Bodywork
We will give our bodies some serious (and playful) attention using breath, touch and focusing techniques. Simply bringing awareness to the physicality of the body can be profoundly revealing.
>>Authentic Movement
Authentic Movement is a development of Jungian analysis and dance movement therapy, which makes space for the body to follow inner impulses and to move in an unconstrained way. Just moving in a manner that feel right, without judgement, in a safe environment. It’s a deceptively simple format which can bring extraordinary insights.
A key aspect of Authentic Movement is to have our movements witnessed by another – and what we learn as a witness can be as important as the understandings gained as a mover. See More about Authentic Movement.
>>Dance of Awareness
Dance of Awareness combines the pleasure of embodiment with a fascination about how consciousness reacts to movement, music, space and other movers.
DoA uses dramatic and evocative music and a series of structures to guide you through an energetic wave of awareness:
Being aware of awareness and noticing what is arriving in awareness at any one moment;
Sensing the body directly – becoming aware of the physical sensations of flesh and bone;
Grounding our bodies in connection to the earth;
Expressing the shape and movements that are ready to take form;
Releasing the energy that is held in the body;
Connecting with our inner self and other movers;
Completing the journey, finding a resting place, and returning to Being.
This wave draws on the bioenergetic breath cycle, Reichian psychology and 5rhythms dance, amongst other disciplines. The workshop is particularly designed for people with an interest in exploring movement and bodywork in a spirit of self discovery. There will be opportunities to work individually, in pairs and as a group. No special skills or experience are needed – just a willingness to be moved by your own impulses, and share what emerges in a safe and supportive space.
NB: This work will release energy which is held in the body, and can evoke strong emotions. Ideally you will have worked with Tim before, or have some experience of similar expressive or therapeutic groupwork. If in doubt, call Tim to discuss.
